Samantha Downie

Specialty Trainee - Year 8

Sam Downie studied medicine and did her foundation training in Edinburgh before coming to Dundee for orthopaedics in 2014. 

During her time in Dundee, Sam has chaired a regional ethics committee, been UKITE editor for MSK tumours and studied part-time for a PhD in metastatic bone disease, which she will submit next year. She has been the recipient of the Robertson Trust Research Fellowship and British Hip Society Travelling Fellowship.

Sam passed her FRCS in July 2022 and will go on fellowship to Glasgow next year. Her specialty interests are revision, peri-prosthetic trauma and secondary bone tumours.
