Mr Simon Johnson
MBChB, BSc (Hons.), FRCS Ed (T&O), Dip Hand Surg (Br), VR, RAMC
Mr Johnson has worked as a consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in NHS Tayside since 2015. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and then completed higher orthopaedic training in the East of Scotland. Following FRCS Ed (T&O), he undertook the internationally recognised Pulvertaft Hand Fellowship in 2015 and in 2019, completed the British Diploma in Hand Surgery.
He took on the role of Training Programme Director for T&O Specialty Training in the East of Scotland in 2019 and is a national panellist for both the Scottish ST1 and English ST3 T&O selection and recruitment processes.
He is a current instructor on the Advanced Trauma Life Support course and the European Trauma Course and is a clinical lead on the Battlefield Advanced Trauma Life Support Course. He is a Lt Col in the Army Medical Reserve and is currently the Army Reserve Specialty Lead for T&O, the Officer Commanding Clinical Squadron for 205 Scottish Field Hospital and is a clinical advisor to the Reserve Medical Services Arms Selection Board.
In his spare time, he enjoys working as a race-track doctor both at Knockhill racetrack in Fife and also around the UK with the senior medical team supporting the TOCA British Touring Car Championship. He can also be seen firing or driving steam engines at the Bo’ness and Kineil railway where he is a passed fireman.
