Alastair Faulkner

Specialty Trainee - Year 8

Mr. Faulkner is a ST8 Trauma and Orthopaedic trainee based in the East of Scotland. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh medical school in 2012 and completed his Foundation Training in Dundee in 2012 to 2014. He completed a year of Core Surgical training in Orthopaedics and Plastic Surgery at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee prior to obtaining his orthopaedic training number. He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2023 and is an Honorary Clinical Teacher at the University of Dundee.

He was the Vice President of the British Orthopaedic Trainee (BOTA) Society in 2019 to 2020, and sat on the JCST Committee and JCST QA Committee in this role. He was President of the Tayside Orthopaedic Research Club (TORC) from 2019 to 2021 and the East of Scotland Rep of the Scottish Orthopaedic Research Committee (SCORE) from 2020 to 2023.

Outside orthopaedics, Mr. Faulkner is a professional artist and featured on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year in 2018. During the COVID-19 pandemic his painting “Trauma” featured in multiple news outlets and the book “Portraits for NHS Heroes”. He is a keen violinist, pianist and orchestral percussionist and was a member of the Dundee Symphony Orchestra from 2013 to 2022.

Mr. Faulkner plans on undertaking a Fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery at the Epworth Healthcare Group in Melbourne from January 2024.
